How to Screen Grab

How to Screen Grab

You may be asked by a member of our support staff to provide them with a screen grab. A screen grab is an actual image of what is displayed on your screen, this image can be saved as a bitmap, attached to an email and forwarded to our support staff; so they have an exact image of what you can see which may assist them in finding a remedy to your problem.

To carry out a screen grab, follow these simple steps:

1. Ensure that the window you wish to grab is the active window on the desktop, to activate it click the cursor inside the window

2. Once the window is activated, press the Ctrl + Alt + Print Scrn keys on the keyboard. This copies an image of the active window and stores it on a clipboard

3. If you are asked to grab the whole screen and not an application window just press the Print Scrn key

4. Open Microsoft® Paint by selecting Start/ Programs/ Accessories/ Paint

5. When Microsoft® Paint has been selected the following dialog is displayed:

Microsoft® Paint

6. Using the Edit menu select Paste

7. NOTE: A warning may appear stating that the clipboard is larger than the bitmap, if it does select Yes

8. The Screen Grab will now appear in the Microsoft® Paint window

10. Select File/ Save and the following dialog will appear:

Save As

11. Browse to the required folder, type in a relevant File Name and click on Save

12. The Screen Grab is now saved as a .bmp file and may be attached to an outgoing email
